IRAN : THE WEEK IN IMAGES N°95 13.12.2009 The last week’s main event was the celebration on the 7 December the celebration of the Student Day : the regime hoped for a great national mobilization under the Green banner so as to give the necessary legitimacy to this so-called opposition which is openly hostile to any compromise with the West. Iranians were sensitive to our analysis and despite the regime’s international campaign, its televisions or its friend countries, Iranians stayed at home and urged the regime and its sponsors to cheat on images and offer us a festival of rough mistakes. Predictable failure of the 7 December’s gathering | Since several months, the Green Movement calls Iranians for taking to the streets. The dates it chooses always coincides with anniversary dates that celebrate the regime’s supporters. Its argument is that it’s necessary to take advantage of legal occasions to demonstrate safely. Those calls have never been successful because the argument didn’t appear convincing : the fact to demonstrate on the days authorized by the regime would have been synonymous of the existence some democratic space in Iran. Moreover people were encouraged to demonstrate and protest against a personality from the regime so as to ask for its replacement with another one, Mussavi, who is as member of the Expediency Discernment Council legally one of the 22 Iranian politicians who are invested with full powers within the regime.Iranians were cheated a lot for the past 32 years -including the lies of Khomeini’s supporter to come to the power- and they thought they understood that Mussavi needed to be portrayed as the democrat he isn’t in order to make him come to power and thus give a democratic legitimacy to the entire regime. They decided to boycott the Green Movement’s shady gatherings. Our compatriots did even better by standing against the Green Movement and by mobilizing massively in the entire country on the occasion of the 40th day of Neda’s death, a date that is officially forbidden by the regime. As they were numerous, they prevented the regime from charging by reminding the first days of the last summer uprising when they gained control over the streets to chant slogans that were hostile to the regime - 3rd video . This outstanding victory should have inspired the Green Movement but this was not the case. The Green Movement could have repeated the experience by focusing its invitations on the dates that commemorate the numerous people who were killed during the uprising but it did nothing similar. This subject isn’t even mentioned and no slogan remind the several hundred of deaths but the debate is focused on Ahmadinejad’s electoral results to grant Mussavi with power without specifying the position he holds on the top. Via our emissions we broadcast in Iran, we intensified the boycott by reminding our compatriots that the regime’s goal was not solely to appear as a democratic one. The situation is that Tehran is exposed to American sanctions and faces the friendship hand of Obama who offers the end of sanctions against an agreement the United States needs to reinforce the place of American companies on the oil market but also to dominate the Muslim world. Such agreement could be profitable to the mullahs but it doesn’t suit them because it implies they would open politically to the Iranian Islamist pawns that are close to the United States. With such agreement, the mullahs would loose their seizure on Iranian wealth. So to keep their privileges, the mullahs had the idea of a popular protest that would call into question the legitimacy of Ahmadinejad as interlocutor of the Six and thus this would induce some serious international crisis that would be synonymous of a warlike escalation in the aim of urging the Westerners -the United States’ allies- to drop Washington for fear of some threat on supplying. In other words, a victory instead of an agreement ; after then, the regime would make Mussavi come to power to end on a high note. We explained to our compatriots that the regime was looking for using their presence to urge the Westerners to acknowledge the reality of this protest they refuse to consider in order to avoid this series that would be profitable to the mullahs. This analysis was heard and it reinforced the Green boycott in Iran. Images of the 7 December | Considering this tenacious and thoughtful refusal, the regime decided to counterattack by making his exiled lobbyists who go often on television say that the Green Movement was actually hostile to the regime, a step toward freedom. In order to convince Iranians, the Green Movement spread a list of new slogans that are clearly in favour of a regime change. But each time, those slogans were not heard. Then the regime used again its anti-Khamenei slogans that make everybody laugh because Khamenei is not a member of the Council of Discernment and his departure would change nothing. At the 4 November’s previous gathering, instead of slogans that were hostile to the regime, the regime edited lately undated images of a photo of Khamenei that was ripped and trampled by young people. Such untruthful behaviour that considers Iranians as imbeciles reinforced the boycott which was at its height on the last Monday, 7 December, one of the dates that are eminently symbolic for Iranian Islamists. With great difficulty, the regime gathered less than 3,000 people in Tehran, which means that even militiamen are not willing anymore to demonstrate for the regime with civil outfits. Such as it did in the past, the regime resorted to sound addition in order to inflate the number of participants. On the previous gathering, it innovated with short videos in order to dissimulate the insufficient number of demonstrators and it followed the same trend by downgrading the pixel quality so to give a poorer visibility. This time, the novelty was to avoid dressing demonstrators with green outfits in order to attract suspicious people. However the number was insufficient even though and the regime resorted to archive images such as it did in the past. This effect is even more perceivable because demonstrators were dressed with light outfit while there was zero degree in Tehran and it was windy -2 to 3 degrees elsewhere. The mullahs’ regime was not the only one to perform such disinformation effort. United Kingdom who disposes of the world’s leadership on the oil market since a century gave the mullahs a helping hand in order to avoid the agreement Washington hopes for and which could deprive it from this leadership. The BBC was the first media in the world to spread on Monday in the early morning photos of Iranian demonstrators. Because few of them were dressed with warm clothes on this winter morning and with a temperature of zero degree, we’ll name them -wind- resistant students ! Tough luck, the young people stemming from archives wear also outfit that is too green.
<uThis is a slogan that is safe for the regime..

Nevertheless we can describe this operation as a second mistake because there was no spontaneous supporting demonstration from people or even from young militiamen in the memory of the regime’s founder so much that it was necessary to organize some. And here again it was a fiasco. The most important demonstration was the one initiated by theology young students but on the photos, we cannot see the dozens of thousand people that Iranian agencies announced. This figure was repeated by the media of ally countries such as United Kingdom. And yet the regime took a great care of photographic approach with views in the crowd. But as the student-demonstrators were not very young, it was necessary to provide a general view to show off with figures ! As usual, it is faked. You can see it by comparing the circled groups with the people who are on the side : they don’t have the same height. This explains why this photo disposes of two versions. You can click to zoom on some images, in particular those with a grey frame so to enlarge them once or twice.
Here is a regime that is in a bad way. It doesn’t have any support anymore and even G.od dropped it by sending torrential rain that plunged the South of the country into the water. People live flooded, given up, without any care. Here we see old people but 55% of Iranians are less than 20. Those young people who are 85% unemployed or even enlisted in militia are also into the water. Since months they live with no allowance : water is bubbling. It’s the same thing elsewhere such as in Tehran and in the North of the country where it snowed this week : it’s bubbling quite everywhere. After such a week of social failure and of warning from its base, in order to put discontent at rest, the regime eased off regarding its intransigencies by making a step backward into nuclear field. Hurry up ! Rain again !
